The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in all AHA courses and has developed instructional materials for this purpose.  Use of these materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by the AHA.  Any fees charged for such a course, except for a portion of fees needed for AHA course materials, do not represent income to the AHA.


 

Course Name: BLS Instructor

Course Cost: $160.00 

Course Hours: 8 hours           

Course Description: The course educates instructor candidates on how to adequately use AHA Instructor teaching materials, ensure that students meet learning objectives, offer student coaching skills, provide an objective skills performance evaluation, and follow AHA Instructor and course policies. The course covers core content and discipline-specific content required to teach AHA courses. 

The BLS Instructor Essentials Course is taught in a blended learning format. AHA BLS Instructor candidates must complete the online portion, followed by the hands-on session conducted by BLS Training Center Faculty. Prior to taking this course, candidates must have a current BLS Provider course completion card. Candidates who successfully complete the BLS Instructor Essentials Course, followed by course monitoring, will receive a BLS Instructor card, valid for two years. BLS Instructors are then able to teach the BLS Provider course and any course within the Heartsaver portfolio.

Course Pre-requisites: A current BLS Healthcare Provider Certification

     

Application requirements:

1. You must take the online portion BLS INSTRUCTOR ESSENTIALS (https://shopcpr.heart.org/bls-instructor-essentials-online AND https://elearning.heart.org/course/434 ) prior to the hands-on session. (The cost is $40.00 and the online course fee goes directly to AHA).
 

2. Submit a completed Instructor Candidate Application (will be sent to you after you register).

 

3. You must purchase your own BLS Instructor Manual

4. Students must have a five-minute teach back outlined and ready to be delivered the day of the course.  The teach back must be related to a portion of teaching CPR. The TCF who is teaching this course may assign you the teach back.


Additional Steps:  Students are required to complete a monitoring (teaching a BLS provider class while being evaluated) no longer than 6 months past the date of the Instructor course. Should candidates pass this 6-month threshold, they will be required to complete the Instructor course again. 





Certificate:         2-year instructors certification card through the American Heart Association (AHA).

Who is this class for:   This course must be completed by candidates who wish to become AHA BLS Instructors.

A BLS Instructor card expires two years from the issue date. To maintain a current instructor status, the BLS Instructor is required to:

In consideration for my acceptance to a training, testing, and/or educational program at the City of Coral Springs, I agree to sign this Release and Waiver. Accordingly, I agree to unconditionally release, waive, and discharge the City of Coral Springs, its Commission members, employees, agents, and servants, all hereafter referred to as “releases,” from all claims and causes of action, that I, my personal representatives, assigns, heirs, and next of kin, may have for any loss, damage, or injury to person or property, whether caused by the negligence, or otherwise of the releases in connection with my participation in any training, testing, and/or educational program at the City of Coral Springs. In addition, I agree to indemnify completely, the releases against all claims, demands, made by or on behalf of me in relation to my participation in any training, testing, and/or educational program and all causes of actions arising out of my own actions or involvement with the City of Coral Springs. 

If you are registering a child under the age of 18 or an incapacitated adult you represent and warrant that you are the parent or legal guardian of that party and have the legal authority to enter into this agreement on their behalf and by proceeding with this event registration, you agree that the terms of this Agreement and Waiver shall apply equally to all Registered Parties. By registering a child under 13, you agree and consent to the collection of that child’s information which you provide for the purposes of registration

I HAVE CAREFULLY READ THE FOREGOING RELEASE AND WAIVER AND KNOW THE CONTENTS THEREOF AND AGREE TO THIS RELEASE AND WAIVER AS MY OWN FREE ACT. 


I expressly agree that this Release and Waiver is intended to be as broad and as inclusive as permitted by the laws of the State of Florida, and that if any portion thereof is held invalid, it is agreed that the balance shall notwithstanding, continue in full force and effect.
