Course Description:  This program will focus on the “First 10 Minutes” on scene of various working fires such as Residential, Commercial, & Midrise (Garden Style Apartment) fires. The program will focus on effective fire ground operations by clearly assigning basic responsibilities to engine and truck companies. With the focus for the engine company to establish a water supply and get ONE line in operation it allows for the truck company to insure forcible entry, search, ventilation, ladders and utilities are taken care of. Strategically working together towards common goals of saving lives and conserving property, a finely tuned engine and truck company will make a profound impact on the fire ground within the first 10 minutes on scene.

With minimal time in the classroom, students will transition to the fire-ground where they will learn how to effectively work together as the first due engine and truck companies. The class will focus on the importance of effective and on-going size-up by all hands working on scene. For Engine Companies, we will focus on stretching & flowing & estimating and overcoming the problem stretches. For Truck Companies, the focus will be on forcible entry (including rotary saw work), primary & secondary searches, ventilation, VES, and street-smart ground ladders. There will also be a RIT component for both the Engine & Truck company teams working together to manage the Mayday. For company and command officers it will quickly become evident that they can focus on strategy and tactics rather than directing individual task decision making on the fire ground. Finally, our instructors will tie it all together by mentoring a day full of hands-on scenario based evolutions with a live fire component. This program is appropriate for entry-level firefighter to chief officers and all those in between. PPE and SCBA required for participants.

DAY 1 & 2: Engine Operations estimating the stretch, flowing, & moving both 1”3/4 & 2 1/2” hose through interior, exterior and high-rise evolutions.

DAY 3 & 4: Truck / Rescue work on forcible entry (including rotary saw work), primary & secondary searches, ventilation, VES, and street-smart ground ladders.

DAY 5:  Live action, scenario-based evolutions reinforcing the concepts and skills taught throughout the week.
